![]() Based on the previews for next week's finale, things appear to spiral downhill from here. It's truly amazing that First Recon doesn't take any casualties during all of it. Stephen "Godfather" Ferrando (Chance Kelly, American Gangster), seemingly unwilling to accept that the war is turning from "reconnaissance" to the fight in Baghdad, lobbying for another insane mission for First Recon and sending the humvees along with the Delta reservists up to Baqubah to take on armored Iraqi troops. Then the poorly trained reservists in Delta Company arrive, destroying an innocent village as well as nearly killing Sgt. only to have the 40mm self-propelled grenade bounce off the road and tragically land in the head of a Baghdad refugee. Iraqi men are found stripped nude by the Republican Guard - are they civilians or soldiers hiding their uniforms? In trying to get an oncoming car to stop, Marines fire a smoke grenade as a warning. The combat scenes this episode did an excellent job of portraying how confusing and accident-prone the war is becoming at this point in the invasion. civilians can think about and question the point of a war all they want, but when it comes down to it, the average soldier just wants to do what he's been trained to do. As Evan Wright (Lee Tergesen, Oz) asked why they're even there if there are no weapons of mass destruction, Trombley answered the way one would expect most soldiers trained to kill would: "The point is, we get to kill people, you dumb f***." The conversation succinctly broke down the two sides of the argument. Since the declassification of the Stargate Program, there have been several books published about its most unique mission: Atlantis.
